Africa-Press – Angola. More than 18,300 inhabitants of the municipal seat of Jamba, province of Huíla, benefited from drinking water, after the rehabilitation and expansion of the production and distribution system, revealed yesterday, the executive administrator for the Technical Area of the Provincial Water and Sanitation Company.
Edson Baptista said, during a visit to verify the sector’s equipment in the municipality, that, with the intervention in the system, the capture increased the capacity from 20 to 200 cubic meters of water per hour.
The administrator highlighted that the intervention carried out in 2017 included the modernization of the Station on the Colui River, construction of reservoirs, installation of a distribution network and household connections, in an investment estimated at US$20 million.
The municipality now has a treatment plant, with two tanks of raw water of 100 cubic meters each and a reservoir of treated water, of 850 cubic meters, in addition to others of distribution capable of reserving 2,700 cubic meters.
“In the past, we had only 20 kilometers of network in the urban center, but currently we have 86 kilometers”, highlighted Edson Baptista, adding that 3,457 household connections were made in the 12 peripheral neighborhoods of the municipal headquarters against the previous 250.
The executive administrator assured that the quality of water consumed in the municipality of Jamba Mineira is within the international standards defined by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Edson Baptista stressed that the municipality has conditions to guarantee per capita consumption, defined for the Austral region, calculated at 160 liters per person.
Payment System
The municipality of Jamba has, since last week, the collection and payment system of the Empresa Provincial de Água e Saneamento.
Of the 3,457 registered consumers, at least 1,685 have already signed a contract with the company, at a time when the customers’ debt is being determined.
“Each cubic meter costs 308 kwanzas, a value influenced by the high production costs made using alternative energy sources”, he explained. Jamba’s municipal headquarters, located about 315 kilometers east of the city of Lubango, has a estimated at 22 thousand inhabitants.
