Africa-Press – Angola. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) clarified this Monday in Dundo (Lunda Norte) that, so far, more than 600 of the approximately 7,000 refugees from the Lôvua settlement have expressed the desire to return to the DRC, representing, thus, the group that will be voluntarily repatriated once all conditions are met.

In the document sent yesterday to Jornal de Angola, UNHCR underlines that voluntary repatriation was initially suspended due to the poor conditions of the roads and bridge over the Kasai River and, only later, due to measures to prevent Covid-19. 19.

The note, in contrast, UNHCR clarifies the repatriation process of the news that Jornal de Angola published yesterday, under the title “Government and UNHCR create conditions for the return of refugees from the DRC”, did not mention the repair of the bridge and end.

It also clarifies that the 71% increase in the rate of return refers to global data from the UNHCR Global Trends report, collected in 2021 and published on 16 June, and not to the situation in Lunda-Norte.
