Africa-Press – Angola. The training of Electoral Civic Education Agents carried out, simultaneously, in the six municipalities of the province of Zaire, involved 172 trainees. The spokesperson for the Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) in Zaire, Diwampovesa Victorino, said that the plan was designed to implement the training actions as quickly as possible, so that the agents can start the awareness-raising work.

Diwampovesa Victorino stressed that agents are prohibited from directing voters to vote for this or that party during activities. Thus, the CPE in the province of Zaire is training agents for the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Kuimba, Nzeto, Tomboco and Nóqui.

In turn, the president of the Municipal Electoral Commission of Mbanza Kongo, José Vieira, advised the Electoral Civic Education agents to put into practice the acquired knowledge with exemption, humility, patience and understanding.

“Electoral agents are prohibited from insinuating citizens to vote for political parties or coalitions. Their job is only to transmit messages of clarification and awareness of citizens to fulfill their civic duty, going to vote in August”, emphasized José Vieira.

Traditional Authorities

The traditional authorities in Lumbo, city of Mbanza Kongo, yesterday appealed to the population to be guided by a conduct of tolerance, avoiding clashes due to differences of opinion, with a view to promoting public harmony, peace and tranquility during the electoral period. .

The coordinator of the nucleus of traditional authorities in Lumbo, Afonso Mendes, who launched the appeal on the sidelines of the training seminar for 172 Electoral Civic Education Agents, considered the General Elections a celebration of democracy, in relation to which the population must show love for the neighbor, respect for opposing options and to accept political demonstration as a legal act.

Addressing political parties and coalitions, the elder advised leaders to convey messages with greater care and respect for differences, and that, in the end, accept the results as the people’s final choice. “The population must show civility, and not get into trouble to contradict the winner”.
