Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, witnessed yesterday, in Doha, the signing ceremony of the Peace Agreement between the Government of Chad and the Political-Military Movements, held in the capital of the State of Qatar.

Mandated by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Téte António witnessed the act that seals the culmination of a negotiation to end a conflict between the Government of Chad and more than fifty political and military groups.

Prior to the signing of the Doha Peace Agreement between the Government of Chad and the Political-Military Movements, which aims to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace in Chad and to realize the hopes and aspirations of the Chadian people and the right to live in security and prosperity, speeches were heard from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Negotiations between the Government of Chad and the political-military groups began in March, after several delays, to end decades of unrest and instability in this country of 16 million people, which has undergone several coups d’état.

Deepening Of Relationships

The deepening of bilateral cooperation between Angola and the State of Qatar was at the center of a meeting held in the early afternoon of yesterday, August 8, in Doha, between Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mohammad Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.

During the meeting, the two entities considered that it is time for Angola and Qatar to move towards a more dynamic and diversified bilateral economic cooperation, with the implementation of legal instruments already negotiated between the parties.

The two interlocutors are of the opinion that the Governments of both countries should work together in order to expand cooperation in the most varied areas, as well as in the promotion of direct investments between Angolan and Qatari businessmen.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, ministers Téte António and Mohammad Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani also addressed the peace and security situation in the cradle of the continent and in the Middle East, as well as the role played by Angola in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts. in Africa.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, paid an official visit to Doha, State of Qatar on 8 and 9 September 2019, during which His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, encouraged businessmen Qataris to invest in the different sectors of the Angolan economy.

On the sidelines of the visit, at that time, several legal instruments were signed, namely, agreements in the Maritime and Port domains, Technical, Commercial and Economic Cooperation, Visa Exemption in Diplomatic and Service Passports and the establishment of the Political Consultation mechanism.

Furthermore, and with the aim of strengthening these relations, the two countries established a Cooperation Agreement in the field of Transport, which provides for air connections between the capitals Luanda and Doha, carried out by the national company, Qatar Airways.
