Africa-Press – Angola. The U-18 men’s national basketball team faces, today, the Senegalese counterpart, in a challenge for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations, Afrobasket, which takes place at the Antananarivo Sports Palace, in Madagascar.

To reach this stage of the competition, the Angolans occupied the fourth position of group B, with 6 points, as a result of the victories against Mali (61-57) and Rwanda (66-55), and defeat against Egypt (43-69 ) and Guinea (47-57).

Senegal, on the other hand, was ranked first in Serie A with 6 points, beating Algeria (76-59), Benin (94-39) and Madagascar (70-62). In second place, was the host team, with five points, followed by Algeria (4) and Benin (3).

Group B was led by Mali (7 points), followed by Egypt (7). Guinea and Angola occupied the immediate positions, both with six points. Rwanda, fifth with four, were disqualified.

In the women’s class, Angola plays, today at 15:30, against Uganda, at the Vatofotsy Gym, in the Malagasy city of Antsirabe, for the quarter-finals. To reach this stage, the Angolans finished in second place in group B, with five points, thanks to the triumphs against Tanzania (77-39), Guinea (76-19) and defeat against Egypt (50-67).

Egypt ranked first in the series with 6 points. Tanzania was third (4 pts) and Guinea fourth (3). In group A, Mali took first place (6 pts). In the immediate positions were Madagascar (4), Uganda (4) and Algeria (4).
