Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Portugal, Carlos Alberto Fonseca, was received yesterday, in audience, by the President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, to whom he informed about the preparation process for the Elections on the 24th of this month.
Carlos Alberto Fonseca highlighted, on the occasion, the excellent relations between the two countries and thanked Portugal for the support for the consolidation of bilateral relations, as well as the condolence letter that Augusto Santos Silva addressed on the occasion of the death of former President José Eduar- from dos Santos.
The President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, for his part, was fully convinced that the elections in Angola will take place in the usual atmosphere of tranquility. He highlighted the maturity and civility that the Angolan people have shown and underlined the presence of two Portuguese deputies integrated in the CPLP observer mission.
Augusto Santos Silva also highlighted the excellence of relations between the parliaments of the two countries and guaranteed Portugal’s availability for them to be further strengthened, either bilaterally or through the international organizations to which both belong.
The current President of the Portuguese Parliament and President João Lourenço, remember, have a common recent past of great and fraternal coexistence.
Both performed, at the same time, the functions of defense ministers of their respective countries. After President João Lourenço won the 2017 elections and with Augusto Santos Silva already in the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, they had several personal contacts, always marked by a recognized and assumed cordiality.
