Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) urged voters to comply with the provisions of the law, avoiding remaining in polling stations after exercising their right to citizenship, on the 24th of this month.
Manuel Pereira da Silva, who was speaking yesterday at the opening of civic training for public prosecutors, appealed to prosecutors to apply the legal mechanisms to all voting citizens who, after fulfilling their right to vote, do not return home and remain at polling stations.
“Your Excellencies will have the mechanisms to enforce the law. Electoral agents must obey the Constitution and the Law”, said Manuel Pereira da Silva.
In turn, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Mota Liz said that the PGR will be attentive to all illicit practices. “In this window of opportunity, we are combining actions so that citizens know their rights and duties when electing and how political actors must behave in a civic way so that elections are orderly and guarantee freedom and fairness”, reinforced the magistrate.
According to Mota Liz, in moments of political euphoria, ignorance or disrespect for the civic rules of coexistence can lead to criminal liability actions.
Mota Liz appealed to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to prioritize electoral crimes at this stage in their action, maintaining a prompt reaction in situations where cases of practices that reflect electoral crimes are registered.
The magistrate advanced that the PGR monitors the country with regard to the practices of certain electoral crimes, highlighting the theft of flags and the burning of propaganda material from opposing parties.
