Africa-Press – Angola. Three thousand orange, lemon and papaya trees are being sold at prices considered affordable at the Expo-Huíla site by the company Jardins da Yoba, which, in this edition of the event, took the initiative to improve the quality of citrus fruit from several producing farms in the country.

Agronomist Pedro Januário, who purchased 250 plants, advised fruit growers and others interested in quality to join the Yoba Gardens initiative because prices are affordable and the advantage of starting to bear fruit after six months.

“I encourage the company to take initiatives favorable to the repopulation of several orchards in the province and beyond”, he said, to explain that most producing farms register, at all harvest seasons, a considerable reduction in food, with many of them producing quality fruit for commercialization.

Eliana Gonçalves, a citrus producer in the municipality of Ganda, in Benguela province, said that in six years she had renovated most of the three orange, lemon and tangerine farms. “This is the last time I come to buy plants, at Expo-Huíla, to cover all the spaces,” she said.

Eliana Gonçalves, who transforms fruit into pulp to sell to juice and marmalade producers in Luanda province, considered Expo-Huíla the best place to buy quality plants at affordable prices. “The supply company’s agronomists provide assistance whenever necessary”.

According to Eliana Gonçalves, the event, held in August, favors the exchange of experiences in various fields, such as irrigation techniques, use of manure, insecticides and pest control using natural plants. “The five days of exhibition are also for sharing experiences”.

The producer praised the “Nossa Terra” project, for producing and transforming tens of tons of oranges into juices, jams and other derivatives, in a pioneering action in the promotion of orchards, plant renewal and the use of natural manure.
