P-NJANGO promises drinking water to the people of Ramiros

Africa-Press – Angola. The first vice-president of the Nationalist Party for Justice in Angola (P-NJANGO), António Barros, guaranteed, on Thursday (11), in Luanda, the implementation of a drinking water distribution network for communities in the Ramiros District, if the party wins this month’s 24th General Election.

The promise was made public during the door-to-door awareness campaign developed by the politician with the vendors and residents of the Ramiros Urban District, to whom he spoke about the importance of voting, on the 24th of this month, for the party’s Cabeça de Lista (nº 2 ), with a view to carrying out the aforementioned project.

During the campaign, which began in the salt flats of Benfica and ended in the Mercado dos Ramiros, the politician listened to the main demands of the residents, substantiated, above all, in the lack of drinking water, scarcity of basic products and high prices of basic food products.

With an estimated population of around 28,000 people, the Ramiros Urban District is located in the municipality of Belas, in an area of 85,000 square kilometres.

António Barros regretted the fact that the residents of Ramiros did not benefit from a drinking water distribution network since colonial times, depending only on cisterns and boreholes. “If my party wins the elections, it will dedicate the first year of government to solving the problem of the lack of drinking water that affects the population of the Urban District of Ramiros, from the Kwanza River”, promised the politician.

On the need to fight the phenomenon of hunger and poverty presented by a Ramiros citizen, António Barros replied that if the party wins the next general elections, it will, in a first phase, subsidize the basic food basket and start a financing program for farmers, with funds from the oil and diamond sector.

“This funding will make producers increase the level of national production, to ensure food self-sufficiency to meet the population at reasonable prices,” he said.

During the act, the inhabitants of Ramiros shouted for “ondjala”, a term in Umbundu, which translated into Portuguese means “hunger”. António Barros said that for this reason, P-NJANGO chose in its program as a priority, the fight against the phenomenon of hunger.
