Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA Executive will pay “special attention” to the fishing industry in Namibe province, through the implementation of incentive policies, with the aim of increasing the capacity to catch fish, if it wins the General Elections on 24 August.
This promise was made this Sunday, in the city of Moçâmedes, by the MPLA candidate for President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who was speaking at the mass political act, as part of the electoral campaign.
“The fishing industry here in Namibe is one of the main sources of revenue not only for the State, but also for families”, recognized João Lourenço, adding that the sector is also responsible for offering jobs to youth.
“We are aware of the sector’s problems and the need to renew the fishing fleet which, although it is private, needs incentive policies so that it can capture more and more fish”, he underlined.
João Lourenço also stated that the MPLA Executive recognizes the urgency of protecting “our waters”, for whom serious inspection work is being carried out, especially against illegal fishing by foreign fleets. “Illegal fishing has its days counted”, he sentenced.
