Africa-Press – Angola. The ruling party in South Africa, ANC, congratulated the Angolan people and, in particular, the MPLA, on Thursday (25), for the “peaceful” holding of the General Elections of 24 August.
In a statement made public yesterday, signed by the chairman of the ANC subcommittee for International Relations, Lindiwe Zulu, the ruling party in South Africa says that, in general, the elections were very well organized by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
The delegation led by Lindiwe Zulu, who was part of the International Mission of observers, visited more than five polling stations, witnessed the opening of several polling stations, and followed the process of counting votes after the closing of some polling stations.
In the Declaration, the African National Congress states that it will never forget the contribution of the MPLA and the sacrifices made by the Angolan people for having welcomed and ceded the territory for the installation of training camps for the military forces of the ANC, SWAPO and ZAPU in the fight against the regime of South Africa’s apartheid.
The ANC also highlighted in the document the “historical fraternal party relations” with the ruling party in Angola, stressing that they have lasted for a long time and stem from the “gracious” support provided by the MPLA to the struggle for the liberation of the peoples of Southern Africa against “apartheid”, colonialism and imperialism.
The ANC statement on the Angolan General Elections alludes to the challenges facing both parties. The ANC delegation took advantage of its stay in the country to strengthen ties and cooperation with the MPLA.
The African National Congress (ANC), a social democratic political party in power since 1994, is led by Cyril Ramaphosa, who is the current President of South Africa.
