Africa-Press – Angola. Border Guard Police officers arrested 159 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Zaire when they intended to illegally enter national territory from the border areas of Luvo, Mpala, Kanga and Mposo, municipalities of Mbanza Kongo and Nóqui.

The data were made public yesterday by the director of the Office of Institutional Communication and Press (GCII) of the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior, migration sub-inspector Sérgio Afonso, adding that the arrest of the aforementioned Congolese citizens, which took place last week, should be the readiness and surveillance actions of the personnel deployed along the border that separates the two countries (Angola and DRC).

“As a result of the surveillance actions carried out by the Border Guard Police along the 120 kilometers of the land border line with the DRC, it was possible to prevent the illegal entry of 159 illegal immigrants. The arrests took place at the border posts of Luvo, Kanga, Mposo and Mpala, in the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo and Nóqui”, he said.

Among the 159 citizens arrested, he added, are 59 women. He also referred that of the 159 illegal immigrants, 100 intended to reach the city of Mbanza Kongo, and then proceed to the country’s capital, Luanda, while the other 59, before being arrested, were clandestinely dedicated to the national territory, the anarchic exploitation of forest resources (wood and others), poaching and agricultural activities.

According to the migration sub-inspector Sérgio Afonso, after a primary interrogation, carried out by specialists from the Border Guard Police, the illegal immigrants were handed over to the Migration and Foreigners Service, which carried out the subsequent procedures that culminated in their repatriation.
