Africa-Press – Angola. Passenger transport in the capital will improve with the addition of three more trains, already in the country, since last Sunday, announced this Monday, in Luanda, the administrator for the Operational area of the National Land Transport Agency.
Alberto Quengue said that the locomotives were accompanied by two motor vehicles and two trailers. “These are trains from the People’s Republic of China, more modern, light, environmentally friendly and capable of carrying more than 700 passengers, of which 190 are seated and 506 are standing,” he added.
The new trains, he said, were accompanied by 47 boxes, with parts for maintenance, in order to give autonomy, for two years, in terms of repair work.
The official of the agency, a body assigned to the Ministry of Transport, also said that the locomotives, as they are light, will allow them to have a longer useful life. “The trains are equipped with a platform for people with disabilities,” he said.
The goal, he revealed, is also to improve, qualitatively, the urban mobility of Luanda, in the connections between the city and the new International Airport, António Agostinho Neto.
As for the entry into operation of the new locomotives, Alberto Quengue assured that it is only after some technical assumptions have been fulfilled and the operational tests carried out. “The three Diesel Mobile Units (DMU) will be delivered to the Luanda Railway (CFL), to help improve urban mobility in the capital”.
The administrator for the Operational area, of the National Land Transport Agency, also recalled that seven new trains are currently in operation in the country.
The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) was created by the Ministry of Transport, as part of the merger process between the National Institutes of Road Transport and the Angolan Railways.
