Africa-Press – Angola. The writer João Maimona is the guest for the next edition of the project “Textualidades Conversas com Leitores”, which takes place on Friday, at 16:00, at the Dr. António Agostinho Neto (MAAN), in Luanda.

Acclaimed for the poetic work “Trajectória Obliterada”, João Maimona will share his creative process and his look at national literature, during interaction with readers.

João Maiomona is a discreet writer but has a work with visibility that contributed to his distinction in 2020, with the National Prize for Culture and Arts, in the literature category. At the time, the jury justified the distinction as follows: “in their works, to propose a literary/cultural text as a broad field of symbolic possibilities, encouraging the exploration of the relevance of the theme and the content in the field of scientific, philosophical, political and of life”.

Before receiving the highest recognition of art and culture in Angola, he twice won another of the most prestigious national trophies: Sagrada Esperança Prize, with the works “Trajectória Obliterada” and “Idade das Pedras”, respectively, in 1984 and 1996. He was awarded the bronze medal in the international poetry competition organized by the Academia Brasileira de Letras, in the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1987.

João Maimona’s work has been studied in several academic institutions in the country and abroad, such as the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon (Portugal) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). He is also present in several poetic anthologies in Angola, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Belgium, France and Macedonia. His poetic texts inspired the sculpture work “O Falar das Máscaras” by Massongi Afonso in a perfect aesthetic combination of intertextuality.

Born in Kibokolo, Maquela do Zombo, Uíge province, in 1955, João Maimona studied scientific humanity in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. In 1978, he took up residence in the province of Huambo, where he graduated in Veterinary Medicine. In this province he was a founding member of the Alda Lara Youth Literature Brigade.

Member of the Union of Angolan Writers and the Academia de Letras de Angola, he works as a poet, essayist and literary critic. He has the following poetic works “Trajectory Obliterated” (1985), “Les Roses Perdeus de Cunene” (1985), “Traço de União” (1987), “Dialogue with Peripécia” (theatre – 1987), “As Abelhas do Dia ” (1988) and, in the theater, in 1987, in “Peripécia”.

Textualidades is a space for conversation between writers and readers in the process of literary communication and aims to motivate the appearance of new writers in the process of literary communication, taking a writer each month to Memorial Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto. Ismael Mates, Tazuary Nkeita, Luís Fernando, Pepetela, Manuel Rui Monteiro and Jacques dos Santos have already worked on the project.
