Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, sent, yesterday, a message of congratulations to King Filipe VI of Spain and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for the commemoration of the National Day of that country, marked Wednesday (12).
In the message sent to the two Spanish entities, the Head of State noted, “with satisfaction”, the high level of cooperation maintained between Angola and the Kingdom of Spain, in several areas, having proclaimed the intention to continue creating synergies in key sectors for the economies of both countries, in order to generate concrete results that contribute to the aggrandizement of both nations.
Bilateral relations between Angola and the Kingdom of Spain are based on the General Cooperation Agreement, signed on 20 May 1987, and the Complementary Agreement to the General Agreement signed in November 1987.
Cooperation between the two countries has intensified in the business sector with the presence of Spanish companies in Angola. Spain has more than 60 companies operating in Angola in different sectors such as energy, banking, construction and agriculture.
Volume Of Business
In terms of bilateral trade, from 2015 to 2019, turnover stood at 7.5 billion euros, based mainly on exports from Angola to Spain, embodied in the sale of crude oil.
Before 2015, trade between the two countries was set at around two billion euros/year of exports from Angola and between 200 and 400 million euros of exports from Spain to Angola.
However, in the last three years, trade has declined significantly, with Angolan exports valued at 1.7 billion.
As for programs to promote economic relations between the two countries, the Kingdom of Spain has projects underway that are part of the Secretariat of State for Foreign Trade, which has supported the establishment of Spanish companies in Angola.
In particular, there are three major financial instruments in progress, namely export credit insurance, the fund for the internationalization of Spanish companies and investment financing at the level of the Spanish Company for the Financing of Development (COFIDES).
