Africa-Press – Angola. The awareness of people about breast cancer should be more comprehensive, defended, in the capital, the secretary of the Port Academy of Luanda, in a lecture on the disease, as part of the October Rosa activities.

Josefa Assuilo said that carrying out awareness campaigns on the disease should not be limited only to the month of October, due to the number of deaths, especially among women, caused, until today, by the pathology.

Women, he advised, should be screened regularly, including for cervical cancer, which has also had an increased mortality. “It is necessary that women learn to prevent themselves against this disease, through routine exams”, she warned.

History

Pink October is an awareness campaign whose main objective is to alert women and society about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer.

The movement began in 1990, when the first Race for the Cure took place in New York. It was only in 1997 that entities in the cities of Yuba and Lodi, also in the United States, began to promote activities aimed at diagnosing and preventing the disease, choosing the month of October as the epicenter of the actions. Today, Pink October is held in several places around the world.
