The new first provincial secretary of the MPLA in Lunda-Norte, guaranteed, after the election, that she will work on strengthening the cohesion and orientation of the militants in the commitment of party and governmental actions, with emphasis on the fight against corruption, nepotism and the implementation of social politics.
Deolinda Vilarinho, who replaces Ernesto Muangala in office, said that the aim is to prevent militants, cadres and leaders from looking at the party as a space for solving personal and family problems. “We don’t want militants who are only looking for prominent positions, to meet personal needs”, she stressed.
The new first secretary of the MPLA in Lunda-Norte was elected with 546 votes in favour, out of 551 counted. Deolinda Vilarinho is the first woman to perform these functions in the MPLA structure in the province, highlighted or cited, cause.
The also governor of Lunda-Norte, promised to work to improve the living conditions of the population, through the implementation of the MPLA program for the five-year period 2022-2027, whose actions are already underway in several sectors. She said that militants, cadres and leaders should not sit back in search of solutions that help to improve both the party’s performance and the scope of public policies.
Deolinda Vilarinho urged the intermediate and grassroots bodies to be more involved in the mobilization tasks, with a view to rescuing the MPLA mystique in the province of Lunda-Norte, in a clear reference to the results of the General Elections of 24 August, in which the comrades got three deputies to the National Assembly in the provincial circle. The current political scenario, he continued, demands work, humility, organization and redoubled mobilization from everyone, including a deep reflection on the part of militants, cadres and leaders. The MPLA’s new first provincial secretary in Lunda-Norte also defended that the choice of leaders for different responsibilities should be based above all on requirements such as militancy, dedication to tasks, experience and meritocracy.
He announced, soon, the elaboration of a work strategy, with concrete proposals, to increase the militants, giving greater protagonism to the basic structures for the mobilization and recruitment of new militants. Deolinda Vilarinho particularly promised to work with the OMA and JMPLA for greater alignment between various party structures.
Unity And Cohesion
The coordinator of the MPLA monitoring group for the province of Lunda-Norte, Américo Cuononoca, appealed to the new first secretary to make more effort to bring together different internal sensitivities, dynamize the bases and rescue the party’s influence within the communities.
For the member of the MPLA Political Bureau, Américo Cuononoca, the promotion of dialogue, at all levels, is fundamental for the vitality of forces of social and political organizations. In turn, Ernesto Muangala, former first provincial secretary, thanked the party’s central leadership for the political trust that allowed him to lead the MPLA in Lunda-Norte for 14 years.
He recalled that he assumed the mission of working with all sectors of society in the province during his term and appealed for support to his successor to expand this dimension, taking into account that the new times demand it. Deolinda Vilarinho is the first woman to lead the MPLA in Lunda-Norte, after João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade” (1978-1983), Silvério Gelim Paim (1983-1986), Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa” (1986-1991) ), Francisco Moisés Nele (1991-1998), Moisés Nele (1999-2008) and Ernesto Muangala (2008-2022). The first provincial secretary of Cuanza-Norte was also elected.
