Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan State will have to provide between US$200 and US$300,000, in the event of organizing the last qualifying window for the African zone, with a view to qualifying for the Senior Men’s Basketball World Championship, to be held from August 10 to September 10. 2023 in Indonesia, Philippines and Japan.
According to the president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Moniz Silva, the amount would be used to pay for the transport and accommodation of the competing teams, as well as the reception of the FIBA-Mundo leaders.
Speaking on the program “Domingo Desportivo”, by the Public Television of Angola (TPA), the official explained that it is a budget similar to any organization of an event of the kind in Africa.
During the intervention, Moniz Silva did not make it clear the Government’s consent for the tournament to take place from 20 to 28 February 2023, in Luanda, at the Multipurpose Pavilion of Kilamba, according to the request of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Moniz Silva also added that the organization of the last qualification window in the country is related to the need to explore the home factor (public support), aiming at achieving the recommended objective, as well as addressing the possibility of carrying out the pre-internship competitive, in the province of Huíla. Angola hosted one of the qualifying stages in November 2021.
For the World Championship in Asia, the first two classified from each group of six teams will go, plus the best third place in the overall result, making up the five spots that the continent is entitled to.
Angola pursues its ninth appearance in the World Cup, after participating in the Kingdom of Spain (1986), Argentina (1990), Canada (1994), United States of America (2002), Japan (2006), Turkey (2010), Spain (2014) and China (2019).
