The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received, this Thursday (27), in Luanda, the credentials of the new ambassadors of the Republics of Korea, Norway and Ghana, respectively, Choi Kwang-Jin, Bjornar Dahl Hotvedt and Mavis Esi Kusorcbo, and are now qualified to carry out diplomatic activities in the country, within the framework of the “excellent” relations of friendship and cooperation that Angola maintains with these States.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Palace, in Cidade Alta, the new ambassador of the Republic of Korea praised the Angolan economic growth of the last five years and promised to work on consolidating friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries. States.

Angola and the Republic of Korea are celebrating, this year, the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, recalled Choi Kwang-Jin, for whom the occasion should be used to strengthen exchanges.

The South Korean diplomat said that he took the opportunity to invite President João Lourenço to participate in the Korea/Africa Summit, to be held in his country in 2024, which will define, among other issues, the strategy with a view to consolidating relations of cooperation between African states and the Asian technology giant.

“With President João Lourenço, I discussed issues related to the development and economic strengthening of Angola”, declared the experienced South Korean ambassador with 26 years of diplomatic career and who has already held similar roles in China, Myanmar, Japan and Iraq.

A valued partnership on the African continent

Norway considers Angola a “very important” partner on the African continent in terms of trade and investment, said the new Norwegian diplomat yesterday, who spoke of his country’s Government’s determination to increasingly strengthen ties of friendship. and cooperation with the Angolan State.

Bjornar Dahl Hotvedt recalled that the Angolan and Norwegian Governments are currently agreeing on the final details of President João Lourenço’s visit to Norway, which should take place next month.

He informed that “it will be a visit with a strong emphasis on investments and business”.

The interest of Norwegian companies to cooperate with Angola in the sectors of Fisheries, Agriculture and Construction of electricity transmission lines are also on the agenda of President João Lourenço’s visit to Norway, said the diplomat, stressing the importance of the two countries cooperating in the field of Hydrocarbons, but warned of the need for Angola and Norway, including other mineral-producing countries, to safeguard carbon emissions, with a view to preserving the environment.

Ghana wants dynamism in trade relations

To journalists, the new diplomat from Ghana said that she had expressed to the Angolan Head of State her interest in working with the Angolan authorities to strengthen bilateral trade relations.

“While bilateral diplomatic relations remain at the highest level, commercial relations, which are also fundamental, have not yet achieved the desired objectives”, said Mavis Esi Kusorcbo.

According to the diplomat, with the emergence of the Common Market for West and Southern Africa, bilateral trade may experience a “significant increase”, as well as a greater volume of investment between the two countries.

“We are working to strengthen trade relations”, declared Mavis Esi Kusorcbo, who said that, within the framework of promoting intra-African trade, she expected the start of direct flights by the Angolan airline, TAAG, to the Ghanaian capital, Accra, with a view to increasing bilateral trade relations.

Mavis Esi Kusorcbo recalled that President João Lourenço visited the Republic of Ghana in August last year. “Since that date, the two Governments have worked hard to foster cooperative relations with mutual benefits,” he said.
