Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney of the Republic, Marty Olavo Kandando, warned, this Monday (31), in Caxito, Bengo province, about the need to create a Maritime Court in the country, to prevent litigation.
Speaking about “Maritime Litigation”, in the second days of legal awareness, the prosecutor, considered that the country should think about the creation of a Maritime Court, in order to prevent itself and not wait for there to be many litigations to proceed with the same.
“Several countries have already done so and it is recommended that Angola do so as well. The Maritime Court is a force of the Judiciary that would certainly help to improve the living conditions of those involved in the sector and in the resolution of disputes, should it be affected criminal competence”, he explained.
The prosecutor also referred to the need for greater dissemination of maritime litigation, as many are unaware of the existence of a specialized room in the District Courts to resolve this type of litigation.
“There is a lot of work to be done in terms of publicizing the maritime litigation room so that more people can come to this Court”, he said.
Regarding piracy at sea, he clarified that the Angolan penal legislation has a deficit, since it does not typify this crime, but, even so, there are initiatives that propose to collaborate in the fight against it.
The PGR awareness days in Bengo aim to raise the legal awareness of the population on issues related to customs, tax, maritime litigation and consumer rights.
Yesterday, the day is reserved for presentations on Food Safety and Consumer Rights.
In Bengo, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is represented in the municipalities of Dande, Ambriz, Nambuangongo, Dembos, Bula Atumba and Pango Aluquém.

In the first 8 months of this year, 489 ordinary passports were issued to citizens of the province, of which only 247 were delivered.
To the 247, there was a total of 36 that were still to be collected, totaling 278 documents, Celina Napoleão, responsible for the Institutional Communication and Press Office of the SME in Bengo, informed ANGOP.
