Angola and Mozambique analyzed the process of institutional reforms underway in the African Union (AU) and the issue of the insertion of staff from the two countries in the structures of the continental organization, during a meeting held, recently, in Addis Ababa, by the ambassadors of the two accredited countries in Ethiopia.

Also permanent representatives of their countries to the AU, the Angolan ambassador, Francisco José da Cruz, and the Mozambican, Alfredo Nuvunga, also spoke about the 27th Conference of States Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), taking place from 6 to 18 November this year, in Sharm el Sheik, Egypt, with the aim of paving the way for the international community to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change, building on previous successes.

The two diplomats also addressed the activities of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) Group in Ethiopia and the importance of promoting Portuguese in the African Union as one of its six working languages ​​and reaffirmed the historical relations of fraternity between Angola and Mozambique. and the importance of strengthening them in the bilateral framework and as members of the Forum of Portuguese Speaking African Countries (FORPALOP). Ambassadors Francisco José da Cruz and Alfredo Nuvunga highlighted the strategic importance of the role of African Union Champions and the need to have mandates supported by specific intervention programs.

Champions mobilize political support and champion AU activities at the highest level, promoting their membership and implementation by Member States. The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, is the African Union Champion for Natural Disaster Risk Management, having this month, in Maputo, the commemorative ceremony of the “13th of October”, International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was attended by national and international partners.

African Union seeks solution for food security

A meeting on resilience in nutrition and food security to consolidate action to resist the shocks and pressure factors that burden the African continent has been taking place since yesterday in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

African experts in this sector will explore and identify actions to create common and solid understanding and seek solutions to bridge the gap between food and nutritional insecurity on the one hand and poverty and socio-economic development on the other hand.

The event will review progress against 21 indicators under the commitment to end hunger in Africa by 2025, from the review of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Program (CAADP) biennial report.

Participants at the event will address the strategy to accelerate the implementation of programs in the Agricultural sector, including social security for rural workers and other vulnerable social groups, as well as for vulnerable ecosystems.

The meeting will address the formulas for combating poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition, migration and exploitation of youth by human traffickers and terrorist organizations.
