Africa-Press – Angola. The Acting President of the African Union, Macky Sall, on Wednesday (1), encouraged the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, to firmly continue the mediation efforts in the region, so that peace and stability reign again in relations between the DRC and Rwanda.
Support for Angola’s mediation efforts was made directly to President João Lourenço, during the work of the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union (AU), which took place in virtual format, under the guidance of the President-in-Office of the continental organization, the Head of State Senegalese, Macky Sall.
The meeting also served for an assessment of the theme “Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo”, with the Head of State João Lourenço providing timely information on the steps related to the tension on the eastern border of the DRC and the next steps to be taken.
Issues related to international politics were debated, within the framework of common positions, taking into account the moments ahead. The meeting of the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union also addressed the preparations for the Summit on the Environment “COP 27”, scheduled for the period from 6 to 18 of this month, to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt).
During the Work, the Heads of State exchanged views on the US-Africa Summit, taking place in Washington DC, from 13 to 15 December.
According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic to which Jornal de Angola had access, the members of the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union discussed at length about the positions they will defend in one and another event as being Africa’s vision on the climate future of the planet and what they want to be the model for cooperation between the continent and the United States of America.
