Africa-Press – Angola. The Christian Association for Rural Progress will proceed, this Friday (03), to deliver more than 50 kits for pregnant women to local health centers in the districts of Caop A and C, municipality of Viana, in order to contribute to a safe birth.
The charity action is part of the maternal-infant project, “More and Better Health”, which aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal, neonatal and infant mortality in the municipalities of Viana, Cacuaco and Talatona.
According to coordinator João Baptista Sangombe, the donation called “safe childbirth kits”, includes items for mothers and newborns, as well as materials for midwives, whose mission is to assist pregnant women or women in childbirth, with normal birth. avoiding the risks of life”.
On the other hand, he mentioned that midwives will also guarantee the continuity of care for the mother and baby in their first years of life.
The project, which started in March, has already benefited more than 500 pregnant women, together with municipal hospitals, including local maternal and childcare centers.
João Sangombe said that the work is carried out by community agents who provide assistance and support to primary health care, offer child and mother protection services, especially pregnant adolescents.
The coordinator informed that the Christian Association for Rural Progress has been carrying out actions to encourage women and adolescents to join the prenatal consultation.
On the other hand, “it is also concerned about the growing number of children and adolescents who start sexual activity very early, become pregnant and end up dropping out of school because of discrimination and other social issues.”
The project has the support of the international humanitarian association , World Vision Angola, Block 18 Association headed by Azule Energia (BP and ENI Company), Sinopec, Sonangol and the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuel (ANPG).
