Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan communications satellite Angosat-2 has entered the final stage of testing, before starting to provide its telecommunications services throughout the country at competitive prices, after having reached the operating position on Friday.
On Friday, the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication announced that the satellite was already at 23 degrees East, its ideal operating position and was communicating perfectly with control stations in Angola and Russia. .
With a lifespan of 15 years, Angosat-2 will also cover several locations around the world, namely: the entirety of the African continent, with emphasis on the southern region, and a significant part of southern Europe, thus constituting , as an alternative source of revenue collection for the Angolan State coffers.
The new phase of Angosat-2, put into orbit on the 12th of October, follows the construction and operation stages, foreseen in the protocol between the Russian and Angolan sides. Owning a satellite brings immense advantages to the country. Angola spends between US$15 million and US$30 million monthly on bandwidth rental to foreign satellite companies. Within a year, the amount spent corresponds to the price of a telecommunications satellite.
The construction of Angosat-2 follows the complementary protocol between Angola and the Russian Federation, to the contract for the manufacture of Angosat-1, launched in December 2017, but which later presented problems in maintaining communication with the ground control centers. The entire Angosat-2 payload, which is enabling the satellite to operate, was built and assembled at the AIRBUS facility in France.
