Africa-Press – Angola. The Huilian international assistant referee, Gerson Emiliano dos Santos, regretted, Monday (7), in Lubango, the lack of support from the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), due to the fact that he was not appointed, a few days before the FIFA World Cup 2022, in Qatar, for a game of Girabola, after seven rounds.
Speaking to the press, the only Angolan to take part in the refereeing in the competition, which runs from 20 November to 18 December, said that it would be essential for his preparation to play some games at “Girabola”.
“I had to resort to two games in which I was appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to train and the visualization of matches from the UEFA Champions League and Latin American championships, to prepare myself with the FIFA Educational System (RED ) and helped”, he said.
Gerson Emiliano stressed that, despite the fact that there are many referees at the Central Council level, in which all of them deserve to be nominated in the national championship, their situation should be better evaluated, in the preparation phase, given the responsibility they will have in the competition, representing the country.
He mentioned that despite having been a difficult preparation, in terms of training and judging games, he is considered to be 80% in the general context, as he had more than five months of preparation, three of which were intensive.
The last game he played was the final of the African Nelson Mandela Cup, in June of the current year and from there they went on vacation and only returned to referee in October, for CAF.
“Be patient, I’m going to a competition where I’ll find the best in the world and I must recognize that, but from the trio I’m part of, I’m going to try to do a good job and try to improve my marks that I achieved at the World Cup in Russia in 2018”, he stressed.
