Africa-Press – Angola. Cyber Security and Corporate Research in Angola will be topics of debate, today and tomorrow, in Luanda, at the second edition of the CiberSecur Summit, in an initiative by CyberSecur, a company dedicated to Cyber Defense Strategy and Corporate Risks linked to Information Technology, and o Portal de TI (a subsidiary of SP Mídia).
The opening of the event should be made by the minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira. During two days, the specialists will promote the discussion on the importance of the National Strategy and Cybersecurity Policies, main vulnerabilities and how to mitigate them. The event also reserves discussions on the training of professionals in cybersecurity, digitalization of public institutions, data processing in the Health area and in the Judiciary System, usefulness of governance, risks and compliance, cybercrime psychology, report of computer crimes in Angola and others. The selected topics will be discussed by more than 20 speakers from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information and Social Communication Technologies, Ministry of Transport, Institute of Administrative Modernization,”Father” of the Internet promises to fix defects
Inrupt’s co-founder and CTO was on the main stage of the Web Summit accompanied by the same company’s co-founder and CEO John Bruce, in a conference that aimed to mobilize world leaders to help create what they believe is the next era of prosperity in Internet.
Berners-Lee’s company is responsible for creating the ‘open source’ Solid platform, created especially to handle data in an open and transparent way. In fact, Berners-Lee admitted that if he could go back to 1989 when he created the World Wide Web, he would take the opportunity to fix some problems he didn’t think about at the time.
Berners-Lee noted that, although the web was created with people in mind to collaborate at a distance, it did not implement the necessary functionality to deal with data security. Likewise, the focus on communication did not take into account the spread of hate speech and disinformation.
Fortunately, Berners-Lee believes that these problems can be fixed, and to that end, the Solid protocol was created that reconfigures the way data is shared, which wraps the data in its own ‘capsule’. The purpose of this ‘capsule’ is to give users complete control over their data, including keeping it out of the reach of others or even sharing it with friends and family.
“If you use the Internet, then you can use Solid,” said Berners-Lee.
On launching this technology to the masses, John Bruce assured that it is possible to make it available to millions of people – albeit at different speeds for companies and individuals.
“Our goal is to reach a point where the citizen and the consumer are the same person”, said Bruce, pointing out that the goal is for government services to work with this protocol and for even the most sensitive data of citizens to be kept in these capsules.
NASA opens applications for internships
The United States Space Agency (NASA) is making several opportunities available in its internship programs for undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral and faculty students. Interested parties must complete the forms available through NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/intern/
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory programs aim to put the intern in action with the scientists and engineers who helped make the solar system’s premier robotic exploration center. In addition to the need to speak perfect English, it is advisable for the NASA Internship Applicant to list all their previous experiences. If you’ve never had a job or internship, you can also apply. Including projects that you contributed to school or extracurricular activities that gave you the opportunity to progress is also a good idea, as is not forgetting to indicate the role in the work or projects and share the achievements in each of them.
Astronomers discover the closest black hole to Earth
Astronomers have discovered the closest black hole to Earth, 1,600 light-years away, the first detection in the Milky Way of a stellar-mass black hole that is not active.
The discovery of this celestial body, called Gaia BH1, was made thanks to precise observations of the movement of a star that orbits it at a distance similar to that separating the Earth from the Sun, indicated in a statement the NOIRLab, an American research center in area of Astronomy, which operates the Gemini North telescope, in Hawaii, with which the observations were carried out.
A black hole is a dense and dark body, from which nothing escapes, not even light, due to the intense gravitational field, so its presence is inferred through the interaction with other bodies or matter.
While there are likely millions of stellar-mass black holes in the Milky Way, few have been detected. In the cases where they were detected, this was due to interaction with a star in their vicinity.
Gaia BH1, which has a mass 10 times that of the Sun, is a so-called inactive black hole, it is not feeding on material from its neighboring star, so it blends in with its surroundings.
The findings of the discovery were published in the scientific journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
