Africa-Press – Angola. “Onze Poemas em Novembro Ano 8” is the title of the literary work by the writer Manuel Rui to be launched, on Friday, at 18:00, at the headquarters of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), in Luanda, to welcome another anniversary of the Angola’s independence.
The editorial assistant of Mayamba Editora, Mário Ferraz, said that “Onze Poemas em Novembro” is a work that Manuel Rui published annually, to honor the freedom of Angolans conquered on November 11, 1975. .
The first edition of the book “Onze Poemas em Novembro Ano 1” was published one year after the Independence of Angola, this in 1976, with the seal of the Union of Angolan Writers.
Mário Ferraz said that the work has 21 pages and had a print run of 1,000 copies, which after Friday’s ceremony can be purchased at the Mayamba Editora bookstore, located on Rua da Liga Nacional Africana.
Manuel Rui Alves Monteiro was born on November 4, 1941, in the province of Huambo, and is best known in his literary work as Manuel Rui. Many of his works contain irony, comedy and humor about what happened after Angola’s Independence.
He studied at the University of Coimbra, in Portugal, and graduated in Law in 1969. He practiced law in Coimbra and Viseu during the war for independence in Angola.
In Coimbra, he was a member of the editorial board of the magazine Vértice, of the direction of Centelha Editora, where he published “A Onda”, in 1973, and was a collaborator of the Center for Literary Studies of the Academic Association.
Manuel Rui was a founding member of the National Union of Artists and Composers, the Union of Angolan Writers and the Angolan Copyright Society.
