Africa-Press – Angola. The Huawei Technological Park in Angola was inaugurated yesterday in Luanda by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, as part of the commemorations of 11 November, National Independence Day, in a project that plans to train 10,000 technicians in various areas.

The Head of State witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the Development of Digital Talent between the national director of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication and the CEO of Huawei in Angola, for the training of 10,000 technicians in the most varied specialties , with priority for youth, and will take place at the Chinese giant’s academies in Angola, South Africa and China until 2027.

João Lourenço watched the video introducing the Technological Park in Angola and visited the innovation and information centers and the engineering practice base, of the project budgeted at over US$80 million.

Huawei’s Technological Park in Angola provides free training in various areas in the technological, digital, innovation and telecommunications segments, for ten thousand Angolans, as well as teachers of technical and technological courses at Angolan universities, until 2027.

Located in the Talatona district, the Park is the result of the need to reinforce and expand the existing partnership and relationship between Huawei and the Government of Angola, via the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, within the scope of Telecommunications and Information technologies, which have strongly contributed to the insertion of the country in the global scenario of great and fast transformations, based on digital, technology and innovation.

Built in an area of ​​32,000 square metres, the infrastructure comprises three centres, the first of which is aimed at training Angolan talent and engineers. The second is dedicated to innovation, while the third to advanced technological experiences.

In a first phase, the Technological Park will ensure the training of over 1500 talents and engineers and, subsequently, it will ensure online training, which may cover an unlimited number of beneficiaries.

It also has a Data Center and 3G, 4G and 5G Telephony Solutions and Solar Panels for homes and businesses. The infrastructure offers energy solutions for prepaid systems, videoconferencing, artificial intelligence, smart home (distance connection of equipment).

Between theoretical and practical classes, the Center will provide training in 5G, communication data, network engineering and information storage in the clouds.

The Park has several compartments; training rooms, laboratories, certification rooms, offices, dormitories, auditorium, cafeteria, among other spaces, which offer the necessary conditions for the achievement of the institution’s objectives, not only in terms of training, qualification and certification of Angolans, but also in offering, supporting and strengthening the ICT market in Angola, with technological solutions adaptable to needs.

Priority for youth

Mário Oliveira, Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, said that the sector, with the support of private partners, is committed to continually investing in training, above all, youth to respond to the needs of the market and the country, and it is in this context that this initiative by the company Huawei fits.

The minister emphasized that Huawei’s Technological Park is equipped with the latest technology and will enable training with international standard quality, not only for national staff, but also from countries in the continent and, in particular, the SADC region, taking into account the installed technological potential.

With the inauguration of this infrastructure, he said, young people have yet another opportunity for high-level professional training and improvement that will prepare them for the demanding job market in the Telecommunications and Information Technologies sector.

“This venture demonstrates the commitment and strong relations between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of China, through the technology company Huawei that has been operating in our market for over 20 years and that has contributed a lot to the training of our young people, through of programs in partnership with national companies, where I highlight the Seeds For Future program”, considered Mário Oliveira.

The minister took the opportunity to reaffirm his total openness to other similar partnerships, with the main focus on training young people to reach high levels of technological development, which he believes to be a contribution to improving the well-being of the people.

He highlighted the strong commitment to training young people in the area of ​​Telecommunications and Information Technologies, in Meteorology and more recently in the Space area, with fruits visibly observed in the SADC working groups, where Angola leads the technical team that studies the operationalization of a system of satellite sharing for the region and responds for the Southern African States to the International Telecommunication Union in space matters.

“With initiatives of this kind, we will be contributing greatly to the technological development of the country. In this way, we will also contribute to the development of modern services in the most varied sectors of the national economy, highlighting the modernization of public services, Industry, Agriculture, Mineral Resources and Oil and others, with a view to the technological transformation of the country, at the level of international standards, to increase employability and reduce poverty”, concluded Mário Oliveira.

Sub-Saharan Africa

Angola is the third country in sub-Saharan Africa to host a Huawei Technology Park, after Egypt and South Africa. Leo Chen, president of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa, said that China and Angola are approaching the 40th anniversary of the strengthening of diplomatic relations in the context of the union of the two countries, having therefore considered it important to continue to maintain partnerships and participate in their development.

He referred that investing in Angola means investing in sustainable development and forecasts show that from 2023 to 2025 the growth rate of the Gross Domestic Product will grow by up to four percent. “Therefore, investing in Angola means investing in dynamism, with the economic typification strategy and reform initiatives, great business opportunities arise”, he reiterated.

Leo Chen added that more than 50 percent of Huawei workers in Angola are nationals and have an entrepreneurial spirit. He considered this act an opportunity for the Angolan Government to show its achievements in digital transformation and in the development of economic diversification, establishing the image in the digital center of the region and attracting more investments.

He clarified that Huawei has been in Angola for 20 years, creating value for customers, participating in sustainable development and improving the lives of Angolans: “This creation of values ​​is covered by the constant commitment to drive digital transformation in all aspects of life through innovation”.

The president of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa explained that the company ranked second in the world, with an investment of US$120 billion in the last decade and, in addition to Telecommunications, it operates in other areas such as Oil, Mining, Ports and Energy.

“We will continue to provide training and maintain Huawei’s capabilities in Angola, and let it take root to strengthen the relationship between the companies and contribute to a more prosperous Angola”, concluded Leo Chen.
