Youth worried about lack of jobs and business opportunities

Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of jobs and opportunities to create businesses was identified as one of the main problems affecting youth in Africa, admitted yesterday in Luanda, the President of the International Youth Forum with Embassies (FIJE) to the European Union (EU) , Winy Mule.

On the sidelines of the closing of the 2nd edition of the International Youth Forum with Embassies (FIJE), Winy Mule said that the participants were unanimous in saying that young Africans do not have jobs and much less opportunities to undertake.

In addition to these two problems mentioned, added the president of the FIJE with the EU, there is also another situation that concerns young people: depression. According to the official, depression is a problem that has led young people to suicide.

Without advancing the percentage of suicides that occur daily in African societies, Winy Mule said that the number is already worrying and calls on Governments to commit to creating social and economic conditions in order to reverse the situation.

Holding the forum, he stressed, is a way and at the same time an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas about the challenges they face, as well as to present possible solutions to Governments and accredited embassies.

According to the president of FIJE at the EU, in Angola, for example, there are many young people leaving universities, but, however, they do not find work or, at least, a non-remunerated internship, much less opportunity to create their own business.

Relationship with the Executive

Regarding communication between the Executive and young Angolans, regarding the resolution of problems of this layer in the country, Winy Mule considered it positive, taking into account the feedback that has been seen in recent years.

“We have had permanent contact with the Executive, where we debate and present reports that in the medium and long term may help in improving the social condition of youth in Angola”, said the president of FIJE to the EU.

The last day of the forum, stressed the leader of the FIJE with the EU, was dedicated to a dialogue called “Young to Young”, where each of the participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, as well as propose solutions to the problems of their country.

The president of FIJE also informed that the III International Youth Forum with Embassies will be held in Mozambique and the IV in Portugal.

Chinese companies in Angola promise internship

The Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gong Tao, said Thursday in Luanda that the Association of Chinese Companies operating in the country is creating conditions to increase the number of jobs and provide internships for young Angolans.

Gong Tao, speaking at the 2nd edition of the International Youth Forum with Embassies (FIJE) which ended yesterday, said that the Association of Chinese Companies is working with the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security for the project to be implemented.

The diplomat said that China is willing to increasingly strengthen relations with Angola, solidly promoting bilateral cooperation in the fields of Infrastructure, Trade, Investment, Financing, Agriculture, Manufacturing Industry, Telecommunications, Training of Human Resources and employment for youth.

In the academic field, stressed Gong Tao, in the last five years, the Chinese Government has granted more than 150 scholarships to Angola. Currently, he continued, a total of 300 Angolan students are attending Chinese universities.

Angola, stressed the Chinese diplomat, is a strategic partner of China and, therefore, he considered it important to work together to achieve the objectives on economic diversification, as well as the strengthening of capacities for the sustainable development of both countries.

According to the diplomat, Angolan youth are friends with China and represent the present and future of friendship between the two countries. “The Chinese Embassy will always be willing to promote cultural and academic exchanges,” he continued.

In Africa, Angola is an important country for China’s policy, due to the fact that it has great potential for development, looking at the vast territory, the abundance of natural and mineral resources and, in particular, the large number of economically active young people.

In the last two decades, said Gong Tao, China built more than 2,000 kilometers of railway in Angola, 20,000 km of road, 100,000 social housing units, 100 schools, 50 hospitals, among other infrastructures such as airports, ports and hydroelectric dams.

According to the ambassador, China is willing to work with Angola to advance the principles of peaceful coexistence, practicing genuine multilateralism and defending the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Gong Tao informed that China has granted zero tariffs to 97 percent of Angola’s taxable products exported to the Asian giant and is working to further increase the ratio to 98 percent, with the aim of reinforcing the level of trade facilitation between the two countries.

In the diplomat’s understanding, China and Angola are developing countries, both with similar historical experiences and suffering, facing common tasks and perspectives for development.

Regarding the distinction that the Chinese diplomatic representation in Angola received from the young Africans present at the 2nd edition of the International Youth Forum with Embassies (FIJE), Gong Tao said that it was a great pleasure to have participated in the dialogue with young people, in particular for having received the award for his contribution to the development of the African continent.
