Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA and the Socialist International (IS) expressed, yesterday, in Madrid (Spain), an interest in deepening the collaboration of both parties, having addressed other aspects of cooperation and projects linked to sustainable development.

The vice-president of the MPLA informed, after the courtesy meeting, with the current president of the Socialist International, Pedro Sanchez, that the new leader of the IS assured that in this mandate Angola will pass on its experience to other countries, in the sense of settling the conflicts and move on to projects linked to sustainable development.

“We need to use the riches of the African continent for the benefit of Africans”, said Luísa Damião, while the president of the IS thanked the support of the MPLA in his candidacy for the leadership of the organization and reaffirmed that Angola and Spain share good relations.

“Both parties are united by the same purposes, they are lovers of peace and political stability, at a time when Europe and Africa are facing various conflicts in certain parts”, underlined Pedro Sanchez.

The meeting between the two entities took place on the sidelines of the 26th Congress of the Socialist International, which took place in Spain, from the 25th to the 27th of the current month, where they were elected to the position of president of the IS, the Spaniard Pedro Sanchez, and to the position of Secretary General, the Ghanaian Benedita Lance, and the Angolan Manuel Augusto, for one of the regional vice-presidents for Africa.

Leaving the meeting, Luísa Damião said that the president of the IS and also head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, had sent an invitation to President João Lourenço, in order to visit the Kingdom of Spain to address issues of common interest.
