The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, João Lourenço, paying the last tribute to the memory of the deceased on Friday, reaffirmed, in the book of condolences, that “General Kamorteiro is forever indelibly linked to the definitive end of the military conflict in Angola, for having been, on behalf of UNITA, one of the signatories of the Peace Agreement for Angola, on 4 April 2002”.
“General Kamorteiro carried out meritorious action in the pacification and development of the country”, wrote the President of the Republic.
João Lourenço, who was accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, after greeting the bereaved family, bowed before the urn containing the body of the deceased and laid a wreath of flowers.
The body of General Abreu Muhengo Ukwachitembo “Kamorteiro, who died last Monday, in Luanda, at the Main Military Hospital, rests in the Alto das Cruzes cemetery. , also signed the book of condolences to the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and senior officials from the Defense and Security sector.

In the funeral eulogy message from the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, General “Kamorteiro” was considered an outstanding patriot, whose contribution to the conquest, preservation of peace and national reconciliation, made him an icon of obligatory reference in the recent history of Angola.
General Kamorteiro, which means small mortar, left “unexpectedly for eternity, leaving an example of bravery, courage and determination in the best interests of the Nation”. , demanding and motivating, for whom everyone had sympathy, respect and admiration.

Military House provides support to the family
Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the funeral ceremony, the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, General Francisco Furtado, guaranteed continuous support to the family of the deceased.
“Now, we are going to embrace the family and provide all the support, because he was the patriarch of the whole family”, assured General Furtado. “We started to receive messages from the whole family, from the first day of his death, and we hope to continue to support them and give attention”.
The Minister of State said that the deputy chief of the General Staff for the Operational Area of Development of the Armed Forces had the launch of his first book in the pipeline. “The work is already completed, and we are going to help with its dissemination so that youth and society know who General Kamorteiro was”, stressed General Furtado.
“Living encyclopedias are disappearing, and General Kamorteiro was one of those encyclopedias. In general, understand that this country did not start from nothing. And with this, teach the youth that they have direction, are at peace and build their democracy. This country has a future and has to be captivated by young people”, he underlined.
Francisco Pereira Furtado shared one of the most remarkable experiences with General Kamorteiro, remembering that the two had the great responsibility of leading the selection process of the 35 quartering areas, in the 17 provinces of the country, from March 2002 to July of the same year.
A Father’s Wisdom Narrated by One of His Sons
At the moment reserved for the family tribute, one of the general’s sons, Orion Ukwachitembo, in the form of a poem, recalled that the day before his death, his father sat down with him and asked him to prepare his doctoral thesis. In response, “I told him it was almost finished”.
Orion Ukwachitembo, passing on the words that marked the last conversation with his father, said: “For things that cannot be changed, all we have left is patience”. to deserve. UNITA deputy, Alcides Sakala, said that General Kamorteiro was the builder of the pillars of national reconstruction, and will be remembered, in this way, in the modern history of post-conflict Angola.
