Africa-Press – Angola. The former Minister of Petroleum, Albina Assis, envisions an oil sector in which Angola is the “great operator” of wells and promoter of relevant projects in the field.
Albina Assis, who held the post between 1992 and 1999, is in favor of cooperation between large multinationals, but wants that, in the future, the same sharing never be below 50%.
Speaking in statements to ANGOP, on the sidelines of the ceremony, in his honor, this Thursday, he also hopes that the national oil company, Sonangol, maintains the ambition of embarking on renewable energies, a work that has already started.
He appeals to the national oil company to make more use of oil revenues to invest in renewable energies, which he considers the future of the country, looking at climate change.
Asked about the permanence of the “Production Sharing” contract, she recalled that some revisions have already been made, around the legal diploma, but admits that it is still difficult to eliminate it completely, since Angola still does not produce platforms and a series of equipment technical requirements as connected to floating storage and offloading units (FPSO).
“ There is still a series of equipment that we have to look for abroad. Therefore, we have to cooperate so that we share production costs with other companies that have self-capital”, explained the former owner of Petróleos in Angola.
He added that Sonangol, alone, does not have the capacity to finance all the projects in which it is involved, for whom there are still few private national companies in this field, pointing only to Somoil.
Regarding the current state of the oil sector, Albina Assis considers that it is in great development and recognized the work that is being done by the current board, especially with regard to the training of national staff.
“I feel that there is a commitment from the current Minister of Petroleum in the continuous improvement of the human capital of the petroleum sector”, he praised.
Albina Assis, a Chemical Engineer from the Agostinho Neto University, is currently president of the Association for the Development of Rural Communities in Angola and of the Food Bank, in addition to being the general commissioner of Expo-2025, a role she has held for years, that is, since 2005 .
Currently 77 years old, Albina Assis has taken other courses in the United Kingdom, Antwerp (Belgium), France and Brazil.
