Africa-Press – Angola. The new consul of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the east region of Angola, Ilunga Shimatu Joseph, promised to combat the phenomenon of illegal stay of his compatriots in that part of the country.
Speaking to the press, after being received by the governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, the diplomat said that the mission of the consulate is to work on the legality of Congolese residing in the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte.
For this, according to the diplomat, an update will be made on the number of illegal Congolese in this region of Angola, in order to be legalised.
It is also on the agenda of the DRC consulate to help free Congolese citizens who are in prisons in these three provinces, accused of committing various crimes.
On the occasion, the governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, pledged to help the mission of the DRC consulate, due to the fact that the two countries have “an excellent history” of political, social and economic cooperation.
The new consul of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ilunga Shimatu Joseph, 53 years old, who replaced Mbeko Mboyo, among other duties, held that of vice-consul and director Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the second class of the DRC embassy.
In Moxico, the Migration and Foreigners Services (SME) annually expel an average of 150 to 200 foreign citizens, for violating the border and illegal stay, of which the largest number are from the DRC, followed by Zambia and China.
The province of Moxico, with a size of 223,000, 23 square kilometres, shares a border of 1,77 km, 747 km with the Republic of Zambia and 330 km with the DRC, of which 907 are land and 170 are rivers.
