Africa-Press – Angola. The country’s capital (Luanda) hosts, in October this year, the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), which brings together over a thousand deputies from all over the world.

The information was confirmed, this Monday, to the press by the president of this body, the Portuguese Duarte Pacheco, at the end of a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

“At the moment, there are only logistical issues to be resolved, the political will on the part of the authorities has been demonstrated and the decision on the part of the UIP has been taken. It remains to fix the opening ceremony, which always counts with the presence of the Head of State of the organizing country”, he pointed out.

He informed that the IPU meeting can have, as a rule, 160 delegations from all over the world, involving more than a thousand parliamentarians and many of these delegations led by the presidents of the respective parliaments.

The IPU is an international organization of parliaments of sovereign states, whose aim is to mediate parliamentarians’ multilateral contacts.
