Africa-Press – Angola. The inhabitants of the municipalities of Icolo e Bengo and Quiçama, Luanda province, are already receiving the internet signal transmitted by the Angolan satellite, Angosat-2.
At this time, the signal reaches the Municipal Hospital of Icolo e Bengo (Catete), where a receiving antenna has been installed to communicate with the satellite.
In the municipality of Quiçama, the antenna was set up at Liceu 7026 Quiçama, benefiting teachers and students from that institution.
Angosat-2, which has been in orbit since October 12, 2022, was launched from the Baikonur aerospace station in Kazakhstan.
According to the clinical director of the Municipal Hospital of Icolo e Bengo, Leocádia Lourenço, with the Angosat-2 internet signal, telemedicine will experience a better dynamic and greater speed in solving some complicated cases.
The municipality, which has been practicing telemedicine since 2020, will henceforth have expanded possibilities for healing patients, as more computers will be connected to the network, allowing for greater exchange between doctors in Luanda and the country.
“It is a great gain for health, because whenever there is any doubt about the clinical condition of a patient, it will be possible to interact, on the spot, with professionals from other parts of Luanda or even the country, to find a solution”, he explained.
The municipalities of Icolo e Bengo and Quiçama are located approximately 62 and 65 kilometers from the center of Luanda, respectively. Despite the distance, the two locations thus provide simplified solutions for patients with complicated pathologies.
According to the director of Liceu 7026 in Quiçama, Joel Cabunde, with the operation of Angosat-2, there are several benefits that can be expected, mainly the ease of research.
“The network arrived at a good time, because, due to the lack of internet, we had many difficulties in generating the Rupe (single reference for payment to the State), a problem that has been overcome since the activation of the signal, three days ago”, he confirmed.
Another valence pointed out by the academic has to do with the ease in scientific research, by the teachers, ensuring that, as soon as the computer room starts operating, the students will also benefit from this service.
The Institute has 525 students taking courses in physical and biological sciences, economics and law.
