Africa-Press – Angola. About 21,000 families in vulnerable situations in the municipalities of Luau and Luchazes, in the province of Moxico, benefited, in 2022, from 937 million kwanzas, within the framework of the implementation of the Program for the Strengthening of Social Protection (KWENDA).
Operationalized by the Local Development Institute (FAS), the program benefited more than 17 thousand families in the municipality of Luau during this period, while in Luchazes, one of the poorest regions of the country, more than four thousand families were supported with amounts that range between 51 and 76 thousand kwanzas each, paid in different installments.
The head of the Department of the Institute of Local Development in Moxico, Simão Baita Paiata, said that the border municipality of Luau is the only region in the province where some families have benefited from the payment of the three foreseen installments.
Despite this, he said that during the implementation phase, many registered families did not benefit from any payment in those regions, due to the absence of checkpoints on the expected payment dates, a fact that forced the return of around Akz 53 million to the bank, despite the mobilization work carried out.
“Let’s hope that in the next recurrence, registered people will appear in ways that return less amount of resources to the State”, he reinforced.
This fact, he continued, was caused by the phenomenon of population dispersion, which has traveled long distances to payment points, as well as making it difficult for technicians to reach communities.
Camanongue enters the list of beneficiaries
In turn, the 11,172 families registered, in 2022, in the municipality of Camanongue, which is 52 kilometers from the city of Luena, (provincial capital), will begin to benefit from the payment throughout the first quarter of this year, within the scope of the same program.
According to the provincial director of FAZ, Simão Paiata, the process of coordination with other institutions is currently taking place, with a view to starting the payment of the three installments.
In the components of Productive Inclusion and Municipalization of Social Action, he said that for this year, the opening of the Integrated Social Action Center (CASI) in the municipality of Luau, already rehabilitated, is expected, as well as the rehabilitation of the CASI’s of Camanongue and Lutchazes .
Kwenda is an Angolan Executive program that aims to create policies to support the poorest and most vulnerable families in the country.
It is funded by the World Bank with approximately USD 320 million and USD 100 million from the National Treasury.
The Program is operated by the Social Support Fund, a government agency that, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.
