Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Sports Press Association (AIDA) was reinstated, Wednesday, in the international institution of the class as a full member.
At a press conference held this Thursday in the city of Benguela, the president of the national body, Luís Caetano, said that he had learned of the fact through a communication from the president of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), Djovani Merlo.
The document ensures that the constraints that were the basis for the suspension of the institution by the international body were overcome.
AIDA was suspended for more than five years due to lack of contributions, a situation that led to the loss of privileges, such as the training of members, as well as participation in General Assemblies.
“We are very pleased to share this information with our associates. For a year now we have been able to work so that AIDA is again considered a member of AIPS”, he said.
Afterwards, the Angolan Sports Press Association will participate in the AIPS General Assembly, to be held in February, in Dakar (Senegal).
Internally, the news comes a few days before the Association celebrates its 26th anniversary, taking place on the 1st of February.
Referring to the work program for the near future, Luís Caetano said that the association he directs will launch a campaign to raise awareness of its members for the payment of their dues and appeal for the new generation of journalists to join the organisation.
“We are going to make the Association more national and active, favoring training, which is one of the great commitments”, he promised.
The Angolan Sports Press Association was founded on February 1, 1997.
