Africa-Press – Angola. Trade between Angola and India, in the period 2021-2022, was estimated at 1.5 trillion kwanzas (equivalent to US$3 billion), said in Luanda, the ambassador of the Republic of India, accredited in Angola, Pratibha parking.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the celebrations of the 73rd anniversary of the promulgation of the Indian Constitution, marked this Thursday, he explained that the amounts referred to are linked to the import and export of various products.
According to Pratibha Parkar, India is Angola’s third largest trading partner, sharing about 10 percent of the African country’s foreign trade.
As for political relations, he said that they cooperate in the sectors of defence, health, commerce, mining and professional training.
The partnership in the field of training was highlighted by the diplomat, informing that the Indian company, Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), every year provides short-term training courses to national-governmental officials, as well as training programs in different areas such as English, auditing and finance, banking, technology, among others.
Still based on the training protocol, he explained that thirty Angolan students were sent to India, this year 2023, where they will undertake higher education at renowned Indian universities, within the scope of the scholarship programme.
He also acknowledged the active support of the Angolan Government in promoting regional peace, conflict resolution, security and stability in the Central region.
“In the post-Covid era, in a time of uncertainty and economic recovery, the India-Angola partnership will be a significant stabilizing factor for the economies of both countries”, he reaffirmed.
India established diplomatic relations with Angola in 1985 and has maintained extremely cordial relations ever since. The economies of both countries complement each other.
Angola is rich in hydrocarbon and mineral resources, while India is rich in human and financial capital, as well as low-cost technical expertise.
India commemorates the promulgation of the Constitution on 26 January 1950.
