Africa-Press – Angola. Agricultural producers and other economic agents in Cunene province are receiving information about new offers from the Production Support, Export Diversification and Import Substitution Program (PRODESI).
The aim of this initiative to inform and raise awareness among producers, which opened on 21 January in Cunene province, is to identify projects that can be financed within the framework of the National Action Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (Planagrão).
Through these campaigns, producers are being informed in a phased manner in the six municipalities of Cunene province and economic agents from Cahama and Ombadja have already been covered.
In addition to the Planagrão, the PRODESI package also includes the Livestock Promotion and Development Plan (Planapecuaria) and the Fisheries Promotion Plan (Planapesca).
The information was provided this Thursday to press by the director of the Office for Integrated Economic Development, Orlando Kamaty. On the occasion, he stressed that the campaign aims to identify projects and municipalities with potential for promoting national production.
He said that the dialogue meeting with the producers aims to create incentives for the strengthening of public-private sector partnerships for the promotion of investments in the various productive sectors.
However, he clarified that Planagrão, with 10 domains, chose four main cereals such as wheat, rice, soy and corn, aiming to increase agricultural production rates in the country.
For the province of Cunene, he said that the municipalities of Ombadja and Cuvelai were chosen for the cultivation of maize and soybeans, due to their potential for permanent water resources and acceptable arable land.
Regarding Planapecuaria, he said that the intention is to finance the development of the production of beef, pork, goat, sheep and poultry, dairy products and other derivatives, as well as to improve the infrastructure of the livestock sector in the country.
Despite not being operational yet, he said, the plan will be extended to producers in all municipalities since the province has potential for cattle raising.
“For the Planapecuria, the Government chose the provinces of Cunene, Huila and Namibe, due to their tradition and potential for raising animals”, he explained.
As for the fishing promotion plan, he said that Cunene chose the municipalities of Ombadja and Cuvelai, where there are rivers with permanent flow, as well as aquaculture fishing in Cahama and Curoca (Chitado)
The new packages, valued at US$5.7 billion, will be implemented in the 2023/2027 period, as set out in the National Development Plan.
