Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Health (MINSA) is committed to reinforcing concrete actions to increase access in the country to more and better inclusive, equitable and humanized health services, at a time when February 11 is being celebrated, a date dedicated to the sick .
According to a press note, on the occasion of the 11th of February, celebrated under the motto “Caring for the Sick With a Humanist Spirit”, it refers that MINSA is committed to services without financial barriers, provision of health services for everyone, at all ages and everywhere, “leaving no one behind”.
In the note, regarding the date, the Ministry of Health says it joins the Church’s appeal, which has a special meaning for all health workers who continue, day after day, committed to the noble and sacrificed task of caring for the sick with humanism and love for others.
“(..), trying with the most effective means available to correctly diagnose the disease and administer the most appropriate treatment, aiming at a quick recovery, regardless of your age, gender, ethnicity, political orientation or religion”, reads in the document .
MINSA considers that, although the quality of medical care is important, there is another factor of the greatest moral importance which is the humanization of patient treatment, that is, putting the patient in the shoes of his suffering, his problems, understanding the their fears, their culture, knowing how they perceive their illness and the implications for their family.
The humanization of treatment implies caring for the patient with respect, with patience, kindness and love, explaining the medical and treatment procedures in such a way that he can understand what is being done and its consequences, reinforces the cited document.
He adds that it is necessary to ask for his consent for each new medical decision, reassure him, allay his fears without neglecting to promote the necessary support from his family and community for his recovery.
On February 11th, the World Day of the Sick is celebrated, a date established in 1992 by Pope John Paul II.
The motto chosen by the WHO for the year 2023, “Caring for the Sick With a Humanist Spirit”, encourages compassion, care and attention to the sick, particularly in times of pain and loneliness.
