Africa-Press – Angola. Seven explosive devices of different caliber were found by the population, in some mines in the Mucuio sector, in Tchiquaqueia commune, in Cacula municipality, Huíla province, last week, with no incidents reported.
The war means were delivered to the National Demining Center (CND) of Huíla, by the municipal command of the National Police in the district, which received complaints from the people.
These are three 82mm mortars, one 60, one 75mm anti-tank armor-piercing bomb, one F1-type grenade, 290 rounds of PKM ammunition and one obsolete AKM-type weapon.
Sunday, the CND spokesperson in Huíla, Alberto Caio, made it known that the identification and subsequent collection of explosive devices was the result of constant awareness-raising actions on the risks of mines, carried out to to avoid accidents with war material, most of it buried.
“Awareness campaigns continue, as it is a pillar of demining and it is through it that these means that we mentioned are emerging, as the idea is to make information flow to all municipalities”, he clarified.
He highlighted that the dissemination of information on mine risks has been comprehensive and, to a certain extent, all municipalities have had the privilege, although the CND needs to pay more attention to eastern municipalities, namely Chipindo, Cuvango, Jamba, which host important stages of the theater of war.
He underlined that in recent times the municipality that has most requested the intervention of the CND is Cacula, as every week resources are received, congratulating the local Command of the National Police in this endeavor, which has collaborated in a “positive” way, making work to produce results.
The National Demining Institute (INAD), formerly under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion (MASFAMU), has now become the National Demining Center (CND), under Presidential Decree 212/22 of 23 July , Articles 1 and 2.
Currently under the Ministry of Defence, it joins the Military House of the Presidency of the Republic and the demining brigades of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), thus forming the National Demining Centre, with three forces.
The National Demining Centre, since its existence in Huíla, in 2006, at the time INAD, has already cleared 12 fields located in the municipalities of Caconda, Caluquembe, Jamba, Cacula, Quipungo, Quilengues and Chicomba, including the Optical Fiber project, in sections Caconda/Lubango, Cutato/ Lubango and Lubango/ Chibia.
In all, 14 million 949 thousand 29 square meters were cleared, of these 715 km of the Fiber Optic area and 15 km of berms, with the removal of 3,886 mines, including anti-personnel and anti-tank, 73,955 unexploded explosives and nine thousand 248 ammunition.
