Africa-Press – Angola. Manuel Armando da Costa Ekuikui and João Lucombo are the two candidates running for the position of secretary general of the United Revolutionary Youth of Angola (JURA), whose winner will be known during the V congress taking place from 15 to 17 March this year , in Luanda.
The candidates were presented Sunday, at the Sovmo complex in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda, during an act that also served to draw the position on the ballot paper and open the electoral campaign.
For number one on the ballot paper, Manuel Ekuikui, his candidacy represents the will of party members within the JURA, as well as the will of young Angolans, which is why he will do everything to be up to the challenges of the young generation in Angola.
He recalled that young people were involved in the entire process of transforming societies, and therefore also want to rise to the challenge of the transformations that the country is currently experiencing, as they believe that JURA has played its part and intends to continue the work carried out.
He informed that he has not been in Luanda since October 2022, having already formalized his resignation from the party president, noting that Luanda is fine and believes that the party will nominate someone to continue the good work done.
In turn, João Lucombo, considers that the process that aims to revitalize internal democracy in the party, because as Angolans the democratic exercise carried out at UNITA level has a positive impact for the country.
Look at the electoral process with determination and courage, intending to build a strong, united and brave executive to work on resolving the countless problems that afflict Angolan youth.
He left the guarantee, if he wins, that they will have a secretary general who is able to meet the challenges that the party proposes to carry out in the four-year period 2023/2027.
Regarding his opponent, he believes that his strategy is stronger than the competitor’s path, as it has acceptance at the country level and the mobilization work will take effect on March 17th.
Initially, eight candidates were registered, two withdrew and four were removed for not being able to fill in the documental insufficiencies.
At the end of the act, the outgoing secretary general, Agostinho Kamuango, recalled that the next step will be the holding of provincial conferences, scheduled for February 25th to March 4th, for the election of delegates at country level.
He appealed for democracy, transparency, fairness and accountability in conducting work for the success of the 5th JURA congress.
The congress, which will take place under the motto “JURA – Innovate and Mobilize to Win”, is scheduled for the 15th, 16th and 17th of March this year.
The Youth Revolutionary United of Angola was founded on July 18, 1974, by David Janotão, who was the first president of the youth organization.
