Africa-Press – Angola. The director general of Youth of the United Methodist Church of the Annual Conference West of Angola, Assurreira Abreu Adão, defended, Sunday, the holding of lectures in schools on biblical teachings, for the quick moralization of young people.

The official was speaking at the closing of the 1st District Youth Conference of the Methodist Church, which took place over three days in the city of Huambo, with the aim of electing the new members of the youth organisation’s board.

According to Assurreira Abreu Adão, the growing level of juvenile immorality is worrying, due to the weak process of educating families about moral and civic values, combined with the implications of globalization and acculturation.

In order to change the picture, he said it was essential to hold lectures on biblical teachings in schools, to change the character of young people, through the gospel.

“Only the Gospel of Christ has the power to enliven and shape men’s spirits, for socially usefulness and to help the Angolan Government in meeting the challenges of rescuing moral and civic values in communities.

To this end, it advocated greater cooperation between the academic and religious communities, in the search for strategies to carry out lectures in educational institutions.

On the occasion, Assurreira Abreu Adão asked the Angolan State to reinforce policies to promote employment and academic and technical-professional training for young people, in order to guarantee their social process.

During the 1st Conference, held under the motto “Let’s raise high the torch of the Gospel, to reach the stature of Christ”, Marcos Felisberto was elected district youth director of the United Methodist Church in Huambo, with 13 votes.

Marcos Felisberto, who replaces Azevedo Calongo da Silva in office, promised to work to reinforce the dynamism of Methodist youth in Huambo and their involvement in social actions, such as blood donation campaigns, basic goods for the most needy and sanitation basic.

In the ecclesiastical region of the United Methodist Church of Angola in Huambo province, elevated to this category in 2020, with the dismemberment of the Southern Region district, consisting of four churches and two centres, more than 300 young people are controlled.
