Africa-Press – Angola. The municipal administrator of Malanje, João de Assunção, called for the participation of the population in actions aimed at developing the district and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
The official made this appeal during a thanksgiving mass alluding to the 91 years of the city of Malanje, which is celebrated today, stressing that the municipality will only be a better and better place if everyone joins efforts for this.
In this sense, he said that the administration continues to intensify urban and peri-urban cleaning work, painting buildings, improving green spaces, upgrading public lighting and other tasks that contribute to improving its image.
Despite these efforts, João de Assunção regretted the frequent record of acts of vandalism of public property, which results in damage to the State, and therefore requested the participation of different social actors, with emphasis on the church, in the fight against these practices .
According to the source, in 2022 alone, the damage resulting from the vandalism of small water systems is estimated at more than 6 million kwanzas.
On the other hand, the official asked for the church to intervene in the fight against corruption, juvenile delinquency and prostitution, with a view to moralizing society.
In turn, Father Nelson da Cruz, who led the mass, reiterated the need to cultivate a spirit of unity and concord among residents, in favor of the progress of the city.
He also encouraged citizens to be receptive to criticism, as a way of refraining from “existential misery”.
Attending the mass were the provincial governor of Malanje, Marcos Nhunga, the deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Domingos Eduardo, and distinguished members of the government and faithful from various parishes in Malanje.
Malanje was elevated to the category of city on February 13, 1932, by the first governor of the then district, Veríssimo Sarmento, through Legislative Diploma number 313, of the Portuguese regime.
Depending on the date, the municipality observes today a point tolerance, decreed by the Provincial Government of Malanje.
