Africa-Press – Angola. Work on the replacement, improvement and leveling of the rails of the Luanda Railway (CFL), in the vicinity of the Lússue de Baixo neighbourhood, about ten kilometers southwest of Ndalatando, began yesterday, announced yesterday, the carrier voice of the railway company.
Augusto Osório stressed that the work aims to correct the damage caused by the derailment, recorded last Wednesday, of the locomotive with 14 fuel tanks, eight of which overturned and two burst.
The CFl spokesperson explained that the detour caused the line to strangle, over a distance of more than 150 meters, which immediately forced technical teams from the Ministry of Transport and experts from the Instituto Nacional dos Caminhos-de -Ferro de Angola (INCFA), to assess in depth the causes that led to the incident and, consequently, remove the wreckage of the train and start work on the reconstruction of the railway branch.
Augusto Osório confirmed, on the ground, the arrival from Luanda of a locomotive loaded with material to carry out all the rerailing procedures and the removal of damaged vehicles, in addition to other heavy materials that arrived at the site by road.
The official of the CFB informed that the personnel of the Security forces, composed by the bodies of the Ministry of Interior and the Angolan Armed Forces, are already in place to ensure that the means are not sabotaged.
“The affected population, and who have the mines within the railway safety perimeters, will not be compensated for violating Presidential Decree 147/10, which aims not to be held responsible for any damage of this nature, for working in agricultural fields less than 150 meters the railway line”, he said.
Augusto Osório said that the train destined for Malanje province would be transporting 600 cubic meters of diesel.
