Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and forty (140) cases of human trafficking have been registered in Angola since 2015, said this Tuesday, in Dundo, Lunda Norte province, the national director of Human Rights and Citizenship, Yanick Bernardo.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the Workshop on “National Reference Mechanisms for Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings”, promoted by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Yanick Bernardo underlined that the province of Cunene leads the list of cases, with 40 percent, followed by Cabinda, Zaire and Lunda Norte, taking into account the border factor.

He informed that the province of Luanda has been the destination of victims who are used for prostitution, begging, work similar to slavery on farms, massage parlors and civil construction works.

He denounced that some traffickers murder victims and extract their organs to sell on the black market.

To boost the fight against this crime, he said there is a national action plan to combat trafficking in human beings, already in action.

He said that a commission to combat crime was created, which aims to bring together a set of public institutions and civil society for prevention, prosecution of agents who violate and commit the crime and protection of victims.

He appealed to parents and guardians to redouble their vigilance to prevent their children from becoming victims of this crime.

The event aims to find mechanisms to prevent and combat human trafficking in the country, especially along the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the program sent this Monday, bodies involved in the administration of justice, MININT professionals, members of the Local Human Rights Committee, technicians for the identification and referral of victims of human trafficking will participate in the event. humans.
