Africa-Press – Angola. The Archbishop of Lubango, D. Gabriel Mbilinge, defended greater dissemination and clarification on who should update the data of the official electoral register, to avoid doubts about the process, especially in rural areas.
D. Gabriel Mbilenge, who was speaking on Friday, after a visit to the rehabilitation works of the Orphanage “Lar Casa Mãe Otchio”, said it was necessary to clarify aspects inherent to this first phase of preparation for the elections, so that they run smoothly, Catholic prelate recalled that the “preparation period depends on the effectiveness of the elections” and acknowledged that, at present, awareness of citizens’ participation in elections is increasing. “It is remarkable that citizens are more attentive and, when they see politicians with inflammatory speeches, with a view to winning the elections, they no longer go there”, he acknowledged.
Bishop Gabriel Mbilenge stated that the church is not concerned with who will win the elections, but that they take place in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. For the bishop, elections should be considered a party, where participants are aware that their vote is valued and is expressing what he expects from those who win the elections.
To those responsible and leaders of political parties, the Archbishop of Lubango said that the disreputable speeches that appear on social networks have a lot of influence on people’s judgment. Therefore, he advised that, at the time of the election campaign, the leaders of political parties should use unifying language, in the name of the consolidation of democracy, peace, stability, development and the well-being of all.
