Africa-Press – Angola. The three companies that explore for gold in Huíla province produced, in 2022, which corresponds to the first year of activity, 35,066.76 grams of the mineral, a result considered “satisfactory” by the authorities.
These are companies Lafech, which produced 13 thousand 677 grams, Mpopo, with five thousand 067 grams and Chicuamona, which exploited 16 thousand 322 grams, operators operating in the municipalities of Chipindo and Jamba, respectively 456 kilometers to the North and 315 to the East.
Huíla has nine registered gold exploration companies, of which three are in operation, one is in the prospecting phase in the commune of Quilemba, in Lubango and another five are in the process of being implemented, with the assembly of the base and equipment in the municipalities of Caluquembe ( one), Chipindo (three) and Cuvango (two).
The municipalities of Chipindo and the town of Tchamutete, in Jamba, are, according to the director of the Provincial Office for Integrated Economic Development in Huíla, Manuel Machado Quilende, the main assets of this ore.
Thursday, in Lubango, the official said that at the moment the companies are only producing gold and the Special Security Corps for Strategic Minerals (CESME) is accompanying the transport to Luanda, where it is marketing and processing.
He declared that currently only the Chicuamona company is working, having in reserve, in its safe, for the first three months of the current year, 1,116 grams of gold powder and 4,572 grams of the product in bars.
He referred that the other two have been paralyzed for some months, and that Mpopo is in the process of replacing equipment, with the assembly of an operating washing plant to treat 200 tons of gravel/hour, and the other is Lafech, since collective holidays, has not yet returned to work for unknown reasons.
With regard to mining in the zones, Manuel Quilende made it known that the administrations have been monitoring the areas, sensitizing the population to refrain from these practices, showing the risk of death and reducing illegal activity, practiced mainly by young people in the community.
He stressed that although many chiefs in the said localities defend the creation of cooperatives for the insertion of these young people in the activity, the official stated that there is no law that approves such an idea, only in the diamond exploration that is in a presidential decree, information known to the authorities locations.
“Many of these sobas want to take advantage of it. We are planning visits to those municipalities to instruct the municipal directorates and traditional authorities, in order to reinforce awareness in the community”, he continued.
