Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said in Windhoek that Angola intends to become one of the biggest oil investors in Namibia.
At a press conference held on Thursday, in the Namibian capital, Diamantino Azevedo said that, within the scope of cooperation between the two countries, Angola has qualified staff, experience and technology to invest in the land of Sam Nujoma, providing mutual advantages for the two peoples.
The minister referred that Namibia can learn from Angola’s experience in oil exploration, as a result of the positive results that the country has been acquiring over the years in this sector.
The Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia, Tom Alweendo, hopes that the memorandum signed in 2022 will move from paper to action, so that time and experience are conditions for the execution of projects between Angola and Namibia .
The ministerial meeting was preceded by a Technical Meeting of Senior Officials that served to address issues related to the Mining Registry of Namibia, technical and professional training in the areas of mineral resources, oil and gas, exploration and mining.
They also discussed the offshore exploration of diamonds, uranium, legislation and tax regime -cutting and polishing of diamonds, exploration of hydrocarbons in the Okavango Basin, as well as business and investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector existing in Namibia, in joint collaboration between Namcor and Sonangol.
The technicians also discussed the investments that NAMCOR is making in Sonangol’s assets in Angola, as well as the investments by Sonangol/SONILS for the construction of an Integrated Base of logistical support for the oil and gas sector in Namibia, in cooperation with NAMCOR and NAMPORT.
