Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, this Friday expressed the need to continue the construction program of the Senado da Câmara and Cariango drainage ditches as they are the backbone of the macro ditches in the province.

According to the official, who was speaking during a field trip in the municipalities of Cazenga, Cacuaco, Luanda, Kilamba Kiaxi and Talatona, in order to verify the state of the drainage ditches, the works in those ditches were paralyzed in 2014 for financial reasons, but will already deserve attention within the scope of the Government’s programs for the five-year period 2022/2027.

Without specifying dates for the beginning of the works, Manuel Homem informed that the intervention programs for Luanda foresee a budget that will allow to respond to the construction of the infrastructures of the macro drainages, being at the moment re-evaluating the projects and identifying financial solutions that allow special attention.

During the visit, the manager was pleased to see the ditches cleared of silting – a reality that, in his view, has contributed to preventing certain areas of the province from registering major damage due to the rains that fall on Luanda.

In the municipality of Cazenga, the governor expressed his dissatisfaction with the breweries, such as CUCA and NOCAL, which drain water between residences into the Soroca ditch, causing embarrassment to residents and damaging the asphalt with the deposition of garbage in the drainage ditches .

In this way, he guided the municipal administration to find solutions with the management of the factories.

It also guided the municipal administrations, the Provincial Directorate for the Environment and partners in order to continue the awareness programs and to allocate a set of infrastructures along the route of the ditches to guarantee better collaboration of the citizens.

As for the construction of residences on the water lines, it guaranteed the possibility of a possible resettlement of 150 or 300 families, depending on the specific location to allow for greater fluidity of rainwater and wastewater.

Regarding the so-called “death ditch”, on fifth avenue, in the municipality of Cazenga, the governor clarified that, under the execution contract (PIIM), the contractor failed to respond to his responsibilities and then the contract was canceled .

He added that the same work was assigned to another company that is already working on the construction of the track and so far there is no record of any constraints with the works in progress.
